2 Steps forward 3 steps back??? Thoughts of fire-breathing dragon from Costa Rica.
February 3, 2017
The last two weeks have been anything but normal, some may say crazy, my reaction was to question 'how is all of this possible'. How could things be shifting so radically so fast? Some believe this to be a strategy of overwhelming the public. Creating so many changes so fast that people become numb to all that is going on, with so many different crisis's protestors will get tired of protesting and the public will get tired of seeing yet another protest and become resigned to whatever comes next. Mr. T may or may not hold this as his strategy.
There is another perspective to what is now unfolding.
For a moment let's generalise Mr. T's actions as basically conservative, of course this could be argued, but let's stick with it for a moment. Then let's consider that much of Obama's platform was liberal, maybe not nearly as far left as many progressives would have liked. Many may now be wondering how Mr. T has been as effective at tearing down years of progress as he has. Is it that he is actually a very effective leader? Or is it something else?
These questions led me to reflect on my own projects. The first time I set out to create a fire breathing dragon it took ages, where to even begin? Ok propane is flammable, now what? How to get propane from a tank the end of the dragons nostrils and ignite it... There were so many questions and answering each question only seemed to lead to several more. Am I about to blow myself up? How much gas to use? How do I control the pressure? Why is it making that loud noise? It was a scary and exciting time and it seemed to take forever. Some questions took longer to figure out, sometimes I just needed to wrap my head around the idea of what I was doing. The first time I test fired the system I nearly had a heart attack, 'What the hell am I doing? I could seriously kill myself doing this...'
Luckily all the time and patience paid off and the piece worked flawlessly.
The next time I created a fire breathing dragon it was simple, it was merely a question of buying a few lengths of pipe, a couple of valves, a couple of bottles of propane and bingo I was all set. It took maybe an afternoon instead of a couple of weeks. Scaling this up to a 50' dragon shooting 15' flames took a little more effort, but it was only a matter of scaling it up and doing so safely, I'd already learned the main principles.
You can probably see where I am going with this. Creating something new is difficult and takes time. Repeating the process or going backwards is much easier because you aren't creating anything new, you are just going back to something old, something that has already been done.
Progressives are generally people who are looking for change, trying to better themselves and the world around them. Conservatives are generally people who are looking to roll back the clock and keep things the way they are, or going back to the way they used to be.
Realising this, the past couple of weeks have made a little more sense, it hasn't made them any easier, but understanding what's happening makes it easier to grasp and maybe easier to change. It might take half a year to build a house, but you can knock it down in a few hours. I will get back to you when I come up any solution beyond trying to figure out what's going on.
